"Maw maw "
trans-aquatic concert
The members of Maw Maw met in 2012 on Les Mains de Camille, an Angels au Plafond show. During six years of tour, they played nearly 300 performances and recorded a magnificent album, bringing together the music of the show (Label Vand'oeuvres). The strong bond that has developed between them makes them want to collaborate on a new project. Maw Maw was born, a voice-cello duo where Awena Burgess and Martina Rodriguez perform a repertoire of Franco-Spanish songs . The actress-puppeteer Marie Girardin joins them on stage to create a visual, aquatic and quirky universe, around songs. Camille Found directs the concert, assisted by Jonas Coutancier .
Maw Maw's repertoire is built on a bilingual thread of French and Spanish covers. On the French side, the musicians sing poets who cast a gaze on the world imbued with tender irony, malice or melancholy: Dick Annegarn, Juliette, Prévert, André Minvielle, Marie Dubas ... A universe populated by romantic and zany characters. On the Spanish side, the duo covers the songs of Violeta Parra, Concha Buika, Alfonsina Storni, Lhasa ... There is a raw emotion here, carried by powerful melodies. We talk about love, separation, desire. We meet a mermaid consoled by a sailor, fish getting drunk on water and syrup, a heroine joining the phosphorescent seahorses at the bottom of the sea ... voice and cello mingle thanks to the chiseled arrangements and the very intimate relationship to the sea. text. “Maw Maw's repertoire includes French and Spanish songs, with a foray into Creole. We thus meet Prévert, Dick Annegarn, Juliette, but also Lhasa de Sela, in this eclectic selection. If the essence of a good recovery is to forget the original version, then the mission is successful. The choice of texts reveals a great sensitivity for poetry, and the pleasure of music is coupled with the pleasure of language. "
